Spring is on the way! The winter in Chicago can drag on and on. When we first moved here, people warned us that March would be the hardest winter month to endure. I have learned that Spring doesn’t always have more mild temperatures in the Midwest, but I can bring the color and newness into my home through bright accessories to celebrate the season.
One way I can do this is to add colorful throw blankets around my home. My family loves to use blankets on the couch, so when I hunted for colorful throw blankets online, I knew that the blanket had to be just as cozy as it is gorgeous and full of the colors of Springtime.
What to Look for In a Colorful Throw Blanket for Your Couch
There were a couple of things I wanted for these colorful throws for my couch. First, I knew that I wanted to find mostly cotton, lightweight blankets. The texture and feel of cotton just can’t be beat for Spring and Summer months. Also, the colors I look for are muted versions of Spring color classics, like blues, greens, pinks and yellows. I thought about the classic colors of Easter egg dyes, and I tried to find a more toned down version of those colors. Lastly, I wanted the throw to look amazing when it wasn’t neatly folded and draped/ staged on my couch. In other words, even if the throw is left messily on the floor or hanging off a cushion, it should still look put together.
In my opinion, a knitted or crocheted throw just wouldn’t have cut it here. I need my blankets to hold up to tons of use, and even pets claiming them for extended naps. I have also noted that knitted or crocheted blankets don’t look great after a while and lose their life prettily easily after a few washes.
When I hunted for these kinds of throws, I was immediately drawn to Turkish throws/ blankets/ towels. The stripes that commonly adorn these types of throws are classic, slim-lined, and subdued, and the colors are often muted as well. In addition, the fact that many Turkish throws are also advertised as towels caught my eye. This made me consider that the material is more durable than a knitted or crocheted throw.
What a great idea to take a colorful throw blanket from my couch to Lake Michigan! I was sold. In fact, if you are interested in learning more about Turkish throws, and what makes them unique, Nesting with Grace has a post all about them that I was inspired by some time ago. So here are the 9 that I thought are worth trying out on your couch this Spring!
Colorful Throw Blankets to Celebrate Spring on Your Couch
The first pick I have to share is the HAVLULAND Sale Pack of 2 Turkish Beach Towels. Right off the bat, I was excited that this is a set of 2. There are so many beautiful greens, pinks, and blues to pick from as well. This is advertised as a towel, but it is certainly beautiful and light enough to work on a couch. I think the light blue is a perfect choice to welcome Spring while there is still a chill in the air.
The Stonewashed Turkish Throw Blanket is just sunshine in a blanket. If ever there is a throw to welcome in new life and say goodbye to dreary winter, this is it! This is a rich mustard gold color that would be an easy way to incorporate warmth into your living space. It is quite large as well, so this can work as a light blanket for a bed as well.
While this Lunarose Home Decor Chenille Throw is not cotton (it is polyester), I couldn’t resist the muted pink tones and slim stipes. It is a beautiful, warm and bohemian vibe that would look great even if it is sloppily laid on your couch.
These Mellowdy Classic Checkered Blankets are the perfect choice for early Spring in Chicago, when the weather is still grey and chilly. This is also not cotton (it is acrylic), but it is warm enough to help transition between Winter and Spring. The colors are beautifully muted to introduce Spring in such a gentle way. The green is my favorite color for this pattern.
These Sweet Water Decor Turkish Cotton Throw Blankets may not have the quintessential Spring colors that I was looking for, but I thought this may work well on a white couch with some colorful pillows. If you want a throw that will work from Winter to Spring to Summer, than this is it. The classic stripes are easy to incorporate in a multitude of styles. This is the same throw shown on the pink couch at the top of the post.
My heart when pitter-patter when I saw this Bersuse 100% Cotton – Anatolia XL Throw in Forest Green. Just think of it on a white or beige couch! But there are so many other beautiful color options as well (check out Aqua and Dark Orange). This is an extra large throw, and it has many excellent ratings.
The Wellstil Nerthus | Turkish Cotton Blanket reminds me of a throw I had a few years ago. I used it as a tablecloth, throw, shawl and picnic blanket. It was that durable. The colors on this make it a great transition piece between Winter and Spring. There are some beautiful color combinations available, and it is extra large.
The Decorative Turkish Fouta Towel with Twisted Fringe for Home is a really a classic look. The muted red is a subtle way to incorporate a pop of color. This is on the smaller side, so I can imagine this on a dining bench as well. It comes in at around 10 bucks!
The Cacala Turkish 100% Cotton Throw Blanket is a midsize throw that would fit a loveseat or accent chair. The mint green color is exceptionally beautiful.
I hope these colorful throws for your couch inspire you to prep for Spring. I enjoy prepping my house for the coming season. Maybe not with “on the nose” pillows that feature eggs, bunnies or words like “Spring,” but I love subtle, muted touches that let my home know there’s a change in the air!
And if you’ve not yet checked out THIS POST about accent chairs that are both cozy and modern, then I highly recommend! I couldn’t help but imagine some of these throws on some of these comfy seats.
